## LOVELY PROFESSIONAL UNIVERSITY

### What is the grading system of LPU?

The University uses the following letter grades to report a student’s performance. Each letter grade indicates the level of performance in a 1. course and has an associated grade point value as per the following table:

0, At, A, B+, B, C, and D are Pass grades. E is a temporary grade indicating permission to appear in the re-appear examination to improve it to a passing grade, and F is a fail Grade. I represents an incomplete result and is replaced with the grade that a student obtains after completing all the prescribed requirements. R represents resubmission in case of projects/dissertations or other similar courses.S and U grades are awarded only in case of courses with zero credit:

S for satisfactory performance and U for unsatisfactory performance in a course.

A student’s overall academic performance within a given term is represented by Tem Grade Point Average (TGPA), and the Overal performance in all the courses completed upto and including the current term is represented by Cumulative Cirade Point Average (CGPA) TGPA and CGPA are calculated as the weighted averages of the grades:

TGPA / CGPA = Ci Gi /Ci, where Ci represents the credits associated with the ith course of a term and Gi represents the grade points earned in the ith course.

If conversion from CGPA to marks is required, the equivalent percentage of marks may be calculated by multiplying the CGPA with 10.

### CGPA to Percentage

For instance, my CGPA is 8.78. Now to convert my CGPA to the percentage form, I will multiply my CGPA by 10.

So, 8.78×10=87.8%

### Percentage to CGPA

Now, to convert my percentage to GPA, I will divide my percentage by 100 and multiply the quotient by 4.

So, (87.8/100)×4=3.512

Therefore, my GPA will be 3.5 approximately.

The CGPA requirement for the award of degree/diploma/certificate will be 5.0 or above for Regular Programmes and 4.0 or above for Distance Education Programmes, subject to getting a pass grade in each of the courses individually, and satisfying other conditions as specified in the examination ordinances/ rules and programme details.
